Globe Explorer

Overview of globe explorer

Upon logging in to https://tradeview-demo.vizionapi.com/explore or when you click the TradeView logo in the upper left, you will find yourself at the Globe Explorer page.

This landing page was designed to reveal all possible navigation, filters, and queries to the user. The data that is displayed combines real time vessel satellite location data alongside in-transit shipments that have yet to arrive to its Destination Port. Vessels are highlighted via a light blue navigation arrow, and Ports are highlighted via yellow dots. A User can also view vessels that do not contain shipments identified within TradeView by selecting the check box next to “Show Vessels Without Shipments” in the upper left hand part of the map, just beneath the date selector. Due to this specificity, the user is afforded the ability to see Today’s Shipments, and can select any specific date via the date filter in the upper-left hand corner (just beneath the TradeView logo).

Interactive globe

Interactive globe

The globe image is interactive, a click and drag of the mouse will pivot the globe to whatever region the user desires. Zooming in and out can be performed by mouse scroll, or by keyboard using CONTROL + and CONTROL - on Windows or COMMAND + and COMMAND - on Mac. Manual zoom is also available in the lower right hand corner + and - signs.

To instantly view a specific region, country, or port, simply type it into the Location Search in the upper right-hand section of the page (just beneath your user icon).

Users can also create custom geofences by clicking the square box in the lower right hand corner, just above the trashcan icon. This allows the user to select a region such as the Red Sea, or the Panama Canal, rather than searching for it via text.

At any point, you can return to the initial Globe View by selecting Back to Global View in the lower right hand part of the page, or by simply refreshing the page.

Global date selection

Global date selection

Vizion TradeView leverages multiple years of trade shipment data and the globe can be “rewinded” to any specific date.

Use the data selection tool in the top left of the Globe Explorer to navigate through time to a specific date. After selecting a date, a small loading message appears at the bottom of the screen, and, once the data is loaded, the globe will update vessel locations, port stats, and global metrics on volumes and values in the right hand display.

Vessels

Vessels

By clicking on an individual vessel’s light blue navigation icon, you can see what shipments, types of cargo, and company’s goods were actively on that vessel for the selected date.

By clicking on the yellow dot for a port, you will see shipments currently being unloaded in that port, as well as the level of Port Congestion occurring within the port. This Port Congestion is defined as a rolling 7 day average, with increased container delays highlighted in red, and decreased container delays highlighted in green.

Ports

Ports

Each yellow dot on the globe is a different maritime port. Click on a yellow dot on the globe to see details about that port such as port performance, goods moving through the port, and companies moving those goods. Vizion monitors the performance of maritime ports and provides several metrics such as performance trend, current performance from vessel arrival to gate out for container shipments, and then sub-measurements of processing containers from vessel, to terminal, to gate out.

Globe Filters & Metrics

Globe filters and metrics

There are a number of filters available in the Globe Explorer’s left hand margin. Filter by company by simply typing in the selected name (specific to Consignees listed in the shipment), filter by typing in the word contained in the HS code description, or by typing in the HS code number itself. Filter by Origin or Destination, within this view is specific to Origin or Destination port.

Filter by origin or destination

The data displays on the right hand margin give you an initial view for how shipment trends can be quantified. Cargo value, TEU volumes, and totals by Product, Company (Consignee), and Vessels are all interactive. Any Product, Company, or Vessel listed is also interactive and clickable.

“Fly To” globe search

Fly to globe search

In the top right of the globe map is a small search bar used to find and “fly to” different locations on the map. This form searches the Vizion location database and returns suggested location searches. Select a suggestion to spin the globe and zoom into that location.
